I've been meaning to update for a long time, as I have pictures galore from many recent events at school. Now I also have many from my Dad and Uncle's visit, which I will share in my next post. For now, I will let these pictures do most of the talking, since really, these are the cutest kids ever (still).
Our first big event was our 100th day of school celebration. I was feeling really festive so we celebrated all day long with a bunch of different activities.
Two days later, I invited all the parents to come to school and see an animal research project the kids had been working on. They wrote about an animal, typed their writing and made a sculpture of the animal and it's habitat. They were so excited to have their families there, but were nervous because their writing was in English and their parents (mostly) only speak Spanish. So, they read aloud the English but then could explain in Spanish.
Next was Valentine's day, a beloved holiday here in Honduras. Many of the kids brought in homemade cards and letters for their friends. I have to say, it was nice to not see any store bought cards! Actually, I was the lame one with some valentines/boxes of stickers I got at the dollar store while I was home. I think I was a little burned out from the previous weeks festivities, so I didn't plan a whole lot for them besides decorating envelopes for their cards and saving time for them to eat all the cake and goodies they brought in (all on their own, I might add, I didn't ask anyone to bring anything)! They enjoyed a nice sugar rush all day long.
Lastly, these are a few pictures from my visit to Sophia's house. She's one of my students; the only one with parents who both speak English. They lived in the states for 20 years and have quite the interesting story. They are great, and we had a wonderful day. Their house is gorgeous and they have invited me to do all sorts of things with them in the future, including teaching her Mom how to make lasagna. They are even going to find ricotta cheese, probably the next time they go to Tegucigalpa (mind you, it's about a 6 hour drive). I'm quite pleased with this plan!
